Architectural Gems Amid Georgia’s Fragile Urban Cultural Heritage 28 February 2014
This illustrated talk by Maia Mania will mainly focus on Tbilisi but will also look at the historic towns of Telavi, Signahi and Dusheti. The talk on Friday February 28th at 6.30pm.

Dr Mania is a leading Georgian architectural historian and campaigner to preserve Georgia’s architectural heritage and the battle to save historic buildings and neighbourhoods. The talk will show how Georgia’s historic fabric is being threatened, such as by development activities in the last decade.
Maia Mania’s primary interest lies in the study of historical urban fabrics, secular buildings erected in Tbilisi and other cities and towns of Georgia throughout the Middle Ages and in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is the author of books – European Architects in Tbilisi and Tbilisi Geophysical Observatory, History and Architecture.
The talk will be followed by a glass of Georgian wine and some of Maia Mania’s wonderful pictures and sketches will be on sale.
